DISCO DOOM PATRIK

Swiss experimental music veterans Disco Doom release new song 'Patrik' taken from upcoming album Mt. Surreal, their first output in eight years. The group, built around duo Anita Rufer and Gabriele De Mario, have been releasing music since the early 2000s and have seemingly lost more of their desire to experiment and push musical boundaries, the new record centring around the idea that "every instrument on the record should also be a part of creating the rhythm". 'Patrik' is an anxiously pulsing, rhythmic song with warped guitar tones and stuttering electronics, it sounds like a post punk song with its batteries dying; its dark yet danceable, reminiscent of bands like Beak or early Deerhunter. "The song was written and arranged directly in the studio,” Disco Doom noted in a statement. “Its immediate recording was important to us to not lose that nervous feeling which we were fascinated by. We wanted to keep the freshness of the new idea in the recording." Mt. Surreal is set for release on the 16th of September on American record label Exploding In Sound. -Toby Evans-Jesra
